committed to life – repost

// July 23rd, 2010 // No Comments » // books & poetry, morality

Been listening to this song for some while and it really moves me. I don’t have words to say, the lyrics says it all; Committed to life by Asian Dub Foundation from the album Community Music.

Here are the lyrics:

I’ll be honest with you:
I hate war in all it’s forms-
Physical, psychological, spiritual… emotional… environmental
I hate war…
And i hate having to struggle – i honestly do
Because i wish i had been into a world where it was
Unnecessary.
This context of struggle and being a warrior and being a
Struggler
Has been forced on me by oppression.
Otherwise i would be a sculptor, or a gardener,
Carpenter – you know, i would be free to be so much more…

I guess part of me or a part of who i am, a part of what i do
Is being a warrior – a reluctant warrior, a reluctant struggler
But… i do it because i’m committed to life
We can’t avoid it, we can’t run away from it
Because to do that is to be… cowardice-
To do that is to be subservient… to devils, subservient to
Evil and so that the only way to live on this planet
With any human dignity at the moment is to struggle.

being optimistic

// June 15th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // morality, reflections

He said:

being optimistic is good… but it doesn’t allow you to fabricate a false sense of rightness from wrongness or vice versa.

… there has to be a fine distinction between optimism and impracticalism.

he further added:

one should go by rules of oneself and the very own nature… but sometimes one needs to re-adjust, re-align and adapt to what one’s through.

Diya Jalaye Rakhna Hae!

// January 1st, 2009 // 2 Comments » // morality

I would like to start the new year with a few pointers for myself…

let there be light... Diya Jalaye Rakhna...

The images above instantly reminds me of the song

“Mauj barhay ya Aandhi Aaye, diya jalaye rakhna hai, ghar ki khatir sau dukh jhelain, ghar to Aakhir apna hai” [5:13s]

This is so timely and is the need of these days for all of us to be reminded of… We must not take our land for granted…

Diya Jalaye Rakhna Hae… diya, the light, the hope for peace and struggle for betterment and improvement… that goes for all of us and for every one of us as individuals for whatever we do, work or create… for all of us as a collective unit, in one direction… that ought to be progress…

.. so this can work for a new year resolution as well

Well that’s pretty much it… it’s not just it.. it’s a whole lot of it if we come to think of it… so let’s get down to business…

Happy New Year!

and would also like to append this text from a dear friend:

Ab darindon say na haiwaanon say dar lagta hae
kya zamana hae ke insaanon se dar lagta hae

Izzat-e-Nafs kisi shaks ki mahfooz nahi
ab to apne hi nigehbano se dar lagta hae

Dankay ki chout pay zalim ko Bura kehta hon
mujhe sooli say na zindaanon se dar lagta hae

Khoon-rezi ka ye aalam hae Khuda khair kare
Musalmano ko musalmanon se dar lagta hae

Bum dhamakon se khoufzada aisa hon
Ghar maen rakhe huwe guldano se dar lagta hae
